Convergence Dance Collective is a contemporary-based dance company that was founded in Reno, Nevada in June 2024 by Micah Camp and Andrew Paiz. The origins of the company can be traced back to the 2023 local dance show and student project Elemental Echoes, of which Andrew played an instrumental part by being asked to choreograph a piece that would comprise the second half of the show. Andrew was inspired by the collective effort of putting Elemental Echoes together and by reconnecting with high school friend Micah upon her return from her studies at Cornish College of the Arts. As a result, Convergence Dance Collective was created with the intent of providing opportunities for collaboration in Reno’s dance community. It also considers the infinite possibilities that present themselves upon incorporating other genres of art into dance works, and as such frequently seeks to involve original music, spoken word, acting, and more in its pieces.
Convergence Dance Collective made its debut with its piece “From the River to the Sea”, choreographed by Andrew Paiz. It was presented at An Evening of Movement, a fundraiser for Pal Humanity with the goal of helping to distribute aid during the genocide in Palestine. This performance is emblematic of another goal of Convergence Dance Collective, which is to give back to the community and anyone in need when possible. Because we so heavily emphasize the importance of human connection, we prioritize taking part in events that make a lasting positive effect on others’ lives.
The company most recently performed their first evening-length work Continuum at Reno Little Theater this past March. This work explored the process of growing up and navigating life’s challenges, and was presented to a nearly sold-out audience.
Convergence Dance Collective is currently in the studio rehearsing for their appearance at Dog Days of Summer Dance Festival this upcoming August.
